Abaya Sizing and Labelling for Global Markets | AL RUQIU
Abaya Sizing and Labelling for Global Markets — Actionable advice on product development, quality control, and working with an abaya manufacturer.
Measurements are the foundation
Global abaya sizing should help a customer choose confidently without pretending that a letter or number means the same thing everywhere. Begin with a measurement chart in centimetres for finished garment length, shoulder or upper-body points, chest or sweep, sleeve length, cuff, opening, and adjustable features. State where each measurement is taken. If the design is intentionally oversized, explain the ease and show the garment on a model with relevant height information.
Separate length from size
Many abaya customers select length according to height and preferred coverage, while body volume may require a different size choice. Treat these decisions explicitly in the chart. A retailer might offer regular and long lengths with the same body measurement, or present a petite adjustment if demand supports it. Test a sample while walking, sitting, and reaching. Do not grade length, sleeve, and width by one automatic percentage without checking the resulting proportion.
Build an international label file
The label and product page should agree on brand, size, fibre information, care method, country-of-origin wording where required, SKU, and any destination-specific information reviewed by the importer or adviser. Use a size code that maps to the internal SKU table, but also show measurements in customer-facing language. Translate care instructions accurately and keep translations under revision control. A neat label cannot correct a product page that lists different measurements.
Make data traceable
Create one record per style and colour with approved sample reference, size curve, target measurements, tolerance, label version, care text, barcode or SKU, and photography reference. Give the record a date. When the pattern changes, update the label and online data together. Before packing, check a sample from each size against the table and confirm labels are attached to the intended style. Photograph any corrected detail for the file.
Test the buying experience
Ask someone unfamiliar with the range to choose a size using only the product page and chart. Note every question they ask about length, looseness, sleeve reach, opacity, or opening. Use those questions to improve the explanation, not to alter measurements informally. Customer service should have the same approved answer. For wholesale, place the size curve and SKU list beside the packing list so receiving staff can count accurately.
A clear global hand-off
Sizing is a product decision, while labelling obligations and customs documentation may be destination decisions. Confirm the latter with the relevant importer before printing a large run.
Learn without destabilising stock
Review the chart after the first customer questions and compare those questions with returns, not with assumptions about a country. If a length option is confusing, improve the explanation before changing the pattern. Preserve the original and revised records. This protects existing stock while making the next production brief more useful. AL RUQIU can develop an abaya sample and measurement record for international retail when the intended market, wearer, and label requirements are supplied. Clear centimetre data turns regional expertise into an understandable global purchase.
